On September 16, 2022, the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs (OICA) and the Overseas Chinese Student Association (OCSA) organized the Mid-Autumn Festival and Welcome Party for new international students; NCUE President Chen Mingfei and OICA Dean Lee Hon Man were invited to attend. At the event, President Chen expressed his hope that the new students from abroad study hard and take care of each other during their university years. He stated that the University will assist in arranging internships for students in response to their needs so that they can learn more about the industry in Taiwan, develop their talents and stay here for work after graduation.

There are more than 350 new students from more than ten countries and areas including Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, India, Mongolia, Iran, Kingdom of Eswatini, South Africa, and the Philippines.

President Chen, who used to study in Germany, expressed his warmest welcome to the students in his opening remarks and sent a special greeting to the four exchange students from Germany. He indicated that the University expressed its care for international students by hosting orientation activities, which brought international students together, helping them overcome homesickness. President Chen added that if students have the need for internships, the University will assist in arranging them. Through the internship, students can learn about Taiwan's industry. Present Chen looks forward to the students staying to work in Taiwan after graduation when a talent shortage caused by the declining birth rate in Taiwan is becoming more critical.

International students have overcome all odds, went through the complicated process of visa application, the "3+4" entry quarantine, etc., to come to Taiwan to study, and managed to get through the initial adaptation period. Dean Lee, who is from Hong Kong, identified with them. He expects that the International Office brings warmth to these students through various activities and that international students visit the Office at any time to seek assistance when they encounter problems. He encouraged the students to be devoted to their studies and lay a solid foundation of Chinese-language skills. Further, they are welcome to join as part of Taiwan in the future and make this island better.
